An Overview about the Department
The Department of History, Holy Cross College has been in existence since July, 2018. The faculty members are involved in research activities. The Department has been trying to promote historical studies and research activities. The department prepares the students to attain academic excellence so as to pave their future career prospects. Empowerment of the students is our vision and often steps related to these are adopted to strengthen both their academic and personal base. A number of peer reviewed research articles and books have been penned by the faculty members. Field visits are conducted for students on a regular basis.
About the course:
The B.A. in History Honours is a three-year, full-time course divided into three parts, consisting of six Semesters. The course aims to provide a systematic introduction to History in general as well as historical studies in India. It lays emphasis on the theoretical and methodological functions of history.

Intake Capacity: 20
Course Duration: 3 years
Eligibility: The main requirement for pursuing B.A. History Honours is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination in any stream from a recognized school board.
Aims and objectives of the Department:
- To impart quality and value based education. The Department of History aims to project history not only as a study of past but of present as well as better understanding of human activities in the society.
- To encourage the students to understand the depth of the various facets in the history of Tripura.
- To teach the students about the national integrity, cultural heritage, communal harmony to make them to be an ideal citizen in future.
The general mission of the department is to contribute to the overall vision of the college by imparting learning in the field of History. In a broader sense, we as a department strive to discover and re-discover through learning and practice the racial, provincial, national as well as international traditions and thereby help the students to think and work for the progress and prospects of human resources.
Achievements so far:
Department has extended its learning method to include the learning by doing method. This was accomplished through a visit to the State Museum and Philatex exhibition, Debate cum Panel Discussion on ‘Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in present society’, ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan’ to create awareness about Cleanliness among the people through posters and banners.
Teaching Techniques and Learning Resources:
Modern teaching aids like Laptop and Projectors for power point presentation are used. Group discussions, educational tours, assignments and report preparations have been introduced.
Students are admitted on merit basis in the college and those interested in the subject are enrolled in the department.
Future Plan of Action:
- Undertake research projects with the assistance of U.G.C, ICHR, ICSSR.
