HOLY CROSS COLLEGE CELEBRATES ITS SECOND BIRTHDAY

Holy Cross College was officially inaugurated by Shri Manik Sarkar, the Hon. Chief Minister of Tripura two years ago at Agartala. It is into its third year now and it is provisionally affiliated to Tripura University (A Central University). After due inspection by the team from the University, the college is permitted to offer the following Courses during the current academic year: BBA (Business Administration), BCA (Computer Applications) BA (Eng. Hons.), BA (Pol. Sc. Hons.), BA (Hindi Hons.), BA (Pass Course), BSc (Computer Science), BSc (Zoology Hons.) BSc (Physics Hons.) and Certificate Course in Spoken English. The most popular course seems to be BA (English Hons.) for which the college has the maximum enrolment. Courses under the consideration of college authorities for the coming years are: BA (Philosophy Hons.), BA (Geography Hons.), BA (Journalism and Mass Communications), B.Com (Commerce), BSc (Psychology), LLB (Evening College) and DCA (Diploma in Computer Applications). It is certainly a good news for all connected with Holy Cross College to know that the college had a100% pass for BA, BCA and BBA first year University  exams and a total of 72 students had appeared for the exam. 

The second anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the College were held on August 10th at 10.30 am. The Programlasted for 95 minutes. It began with a prayer to the Almighty after which the ceremonial lamp was lit by the dignitaries which symbolized the completion of two years of the college. Fr. Emmanuel Kallarackal, CSC, the principal welcomed all dignitaries present. The Chief Guest of the function was Prof. Arunodaya Saha, the Hon. Vice- Chancellor of Tripura University. In his message to the students, faculty, parents and guests, he exhorted them to imbibe the values of generosity and concern for others and to be open to the Holy Cross way of educating the hearts as well as the minds. He was in high praise of the college and said, out of all the colleges affiliated to the University, Holy Cross stands apart in its discipline and excellence. He said, “Holy Cross College is a college with a difference”. He congratulated the management, faculty and students of BA, BBA and BCA for the excellent results (100% pass) in the university exams and wished the very best to the college as it is moving forward towards becoming an independent university in the future. 

Shri Sriram Tarani Kanti, the Commissioner for Higher education, Govt. of Tripura, (Special Guest) congratulated the college for its achievements during the past two years and exhorted the students to excel in their studies and take up projects which will enable them to be contributors to the society. He wished the college good wishes as it continues its journey into the third year. Dr. Mrinmoy Dutta (Guest of Honour) congratulated the college on its second birthday and invited the management to think of more professional courses which will be job-oriented. He too was in high praise of the college and its achievements during the short period of two years. Fr. Thomas John, CSC (Guest of Honour) also congratulated the students and faculty for their excellent results and achievements during the two years of its existence and wished the college a very bright future. He said, “The College which is like a young plant of two years now has the potential and clear indicators to grow into a mighty tree imparting holistic education to its students”. The audience was spell bound by the performances of the students on the stage. The students entertained all present by their lively dances, and melodious songs. Sweets were distributed to all present at the end of the function to make the day sweet and joyful.
