HOLY CROSS COLLEGE SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES
INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR
The International Seminar organized by Holy Cross College and Tripura University on " Globalization: It's Issues and Challenges with Special Reference to India " has successfully concluded. The seminar was inaugurated on Oct. 29 th by Prof. B.K.Agarwala, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, who was also the Chief Guest of the function. Prof. Agarwala in his speech emphasized that the world today is very different from that of 40 years ago. Due to technological development and globalization, people have come closer to each other. He hoped that this closeness will bring in more understanding, respect, peace and prosperity in the world. The principal, Fr. Emmanuel in his welcome speech to the delegates invited all the students and other participants to give and receive. He said, " The more you contribute to the seminar by active participation, the more you can take away from it ".
Shri Kiran Gitte, DM and Collector, West Tripura, was the Guest of Honour for the inaugural function. Shri Gitte applauded the efforts of Holy Cross College in conducting such seminars for their under graduate students. Seminars, he said will broaden the horizons of the students with wide spectrum of ideas. The Keynote Address was given by Prof. P.K Haldar, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Commerce, Tripura University. Focusing on the topic the "contour of globalization", Prof. Haldar pointed out the issues emerging from globalization, its progress, as well as its negative and positive aspects. Quoting Vivekananda, Amarthya Sen and other celebrities, he emphasized the need to break away from our narrow parochial cultures and regions and become citizens of the world.
Following the inaugural function, there was an array of scholarly presentations by knowledgeable scholars and academicians. Due to lack of time; there were many concurrent sessions in panels, besides the general sessions. The valedictory function took place on 30 th October evening and Shri S.K.Panda, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Tripura, was the Chief Guest and Dr. B. Palit, Director, Higher Education, the guest of honour. The Chief Secretary, Dr. S.K. Panda spoke about the need to net work with govt. and non-governmental agencies and engage in coherent actions for development. Quoting a Sanskrit sloka, he invited all participants to come together, work together and move together to achieve communal harmony in a globalized world . The seminar was a huge success with participants from home and abroad.
